Dr. Rettenmaier has over 30 years of experience in practice, research, and corporate veterinary medicine. She has also published in refereed veterinary journals, led international lectures, and has a patent for an orthopedic implant.

Dr. Rettenmaier’s years of experience as a small animal surgeon and personal interest in competition provide her with a unique perspective regarding wellness, preventative medicine, and therapeutics in competition and working animals.  Her objective is improving the quality of life of her patients and client satisfaction by helping their fur-babies.

The owner and operator, Dr. Rettenmaier, is a residency-trained veterinary surgeon specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine.

Dr. Rettenmaier is an avid equestrian and enjoys trail riding and camping with her horses. She also has Hangin’ Tree cattle dogs.

Education and Certifications

In 1988, Dr. Rettenmaier received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University. After getting her degree, she completed a small animal rotating internship and a residency in surgery for small animals.

She also received a Master of Science degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia and is certified in veterinary acupuncture.

Growing up on a farm in Iowa, she helped care for the animals, tending to sick kittens, calves, and piglets, and eventually getting her pony! From the start, she wanted to be a veterinarian, and her time on the farm reinforced that dream.

Our Approach to Veterinary Surgery

Dr Rettenmaier’s mission is to provide referral level veterinary surgeries to this area.  The team cares for your pets through diagnostics, consultations, and surgical treatments.  Pets return to the care of their primary veterinarians when through the recovery period.

Her experience competing in different equestrian disciplines gave her different perspectives as a competitor and a veterinarian.

Dr. Rettenmaier believes in the holistic approach to the animal’s surgery treatment and post-surgery care, considering the environment, incorporating nutrition, adequate conditioning, and muscle memory.

The team strives to ensure every procedure is a success by using the latest technologies and treatments. We also work closely with pet owners to make sure the animal’s recovery process goes smoothly.
